Dear Mrs. Goulet -
After making many phone calls I have finally spoken with a transplant coordinator for Cedars-Sinai. I have been trying to get word to you and Mr. Goulet to let you know that if I am a match and one of my lungs would save him, it would be my honor and privilege to donate one. Sadly, the coordinator with whom I just spoke (1:11 AM Friday, 10/26) tells me that a live human being cannot donate a lung, that we need both.

Music has always been a huge, wonderful part of my life. I've been a radio disc jockey since I was 17 and for the last 10 years or so, I've also been singing at nursing and retirement homes. I have always marvelled at your husband's singing voice and one of the songs I vividly remember playing in my early days on the air was Real Live Girl, sung so beautifully by him.

Unity has a remarkable prayer line called Silent Unity which I called soon after I heard the news about Robert's lung condition. They have a uniquely inspiring, uplifting, comforting approach to prayer, and someone will be praying for him around the clock for the next 30 days. If you ever need a strong dose of reassurance, the number is 816-969-2000 or 800-669-7729.

My love and prayers are with you and your families. I am comforted by the thought that there is no condition beyond God's ability to heal. You are both surrounded by Angels and Spirit Guides and the medical people attending to Robert are being guided by the perfect wisdom of Spirit. God Bless You.

Dear Vera,

Several years ago we met you and Robert when he performed on the Mall in Washington, D.C....My wife Robin was performing in the Washington Court Hotel on Capitol Hill...You and Robert came in several nights and he sang with her and he even sat in and played a little piano...Robin was thrilled ! We have treasured those evenings and the Christmas cards you sent..We were in awe later when he sang at Wolftrap in pain after being injured and breaking a rib..he is a great showman, a wonderful, kind man and one of the greatest talents of our time..Our thoughts and prayers are with you Vera.. Your love, devotion and friendship were so apparent those nights in DC .We wrote the hospital.

Stay strong.....Ron & Robin Richardson

Dear Mrs Goulet,

I wrote to you earlier. I neglected to inform you that at UCLA Medical they are the most lenient Doctors who are also the most well known for transplanting patients over the age of 70. My father is seventy years old and received his transplant there two and a half weeks ago. We had looked into other hospitals after my father was initally taken off the transplant list and we were told Cedars and USC do not usually do transplant for patients over the age of 60. I'm not sure if you are having difficulty with getting Cedars to do the transplant, but I'm guessing if the site is asking for pleas to Cedars to do a transplant on Mr Goulet. Please if there is a problem, see Dr Ross the head of the transplant team at UCLA.

God bless,

Reid Ogata

Mr. Goulet, When I was a little girl in Louisville, Kentucky, I stood outside a backstage door in bitter cold, hoping to catch a glimpse of you after your amazing performance in "Man of La Mancha." Your son, Michael, noticed me there with a broken finger in a cast--I'd spent the evening before in the emergency room. He brought me backstage to meet you where you were icing your knees between performances. Despite your own pain and exhaustion, you pulled me onto your lap, gave me a kiss on the cheek and sang the loveliest version of "Happy Birthday to You" that I've ever heard. Since that time, you have been held in a special corner of my heart. Today I heard that you are seriously ill, awaiting a transplant. So I am sending you a kiss on the wings of a prayer. I bet that there are thousands of stories of ways you have touched lives just as you have mine. And I would guess that all those people are praying and sending peace your way. My family is praying for you as well as your family--especially Michael who was so compassionate. God bless you during this difficult time. Know that you are loved.

P.S. Oh. You may be interested to know that I am now nineteen, a theatre major who sings. I have recently been cast in the title role of Neil Simon's "Star Spangled Girl!" Guess you have been more inspiration that you know. mkc

Mr. G. Please keep fighting. The Red Sox won game 1 of the 2007 World Series and all your fans in Boston are praying for you. Love Shane in Lowell, Mass.

I am so sorry to hear what you are going through. My mother had Pulmonary Fibrosis at exactly this time 4 years ago. Your situation brings back so many painful memories. Unfortunately she did not live long enough to get a transplant. She died 10/27/2000. I hope you are able to get the transplant that you need. The doctors told us that this is a very rare disease. About 3 years ago, my very good friend's father died of the same thing. Now that you are going through the same thing, it seems the disease is not so rare. Good Luck. If any family member wants to contact me to find out what steps we took with my mother, I am very willing to share my story. My mother was at UCSF and they specialize in lung disease and have studied IPF extensively.

God bless you and my thoughts and prayers are with you. This is so hard to endure.

Sincerely,

Lisa Vaca

Robert and Vera,

My thoughts and prayers are with you. That God-given voice will sing on forever.

I am terribly sorry to hear the news of your husband, my dad recently passed away from this same illness, in fact I am still having trouble coming to terms to accept the fact that my father is no longer with us. As well as this illness being as progressive as it is. I feel that the medical team or medical society should be more aware of such an illness like this, as far as I'm concerned I feel that this illness is not thoroughly diagnosed properly. Perhaps even in some cases misdiagnosed.!!!
We were told that my dad's IPF was also a form of BOOP/COOP, is that what they are saying your husband's illness is?

My dad had a biopsy and we even sent the tissue of the biopsy to the MAYO CLINIC in Arizona, have you heard of it? Did Mr. Goulet have a lung biopsy?

My dad was also on a respirator, but supposedly in the state of N.Y. after 3 weeks of being interbated the patient needs to be traked ( tracheotomy ), I'm not sure how it is there in L.A. We were never given the option for my dad to have a lung transplant, in fact they told us he was past the age requirement., along with the excuse that he was to critical to move him to another hospital, I'm not sure how that still sits with me to be honest with you. Since all his other vital organs were 100% fine according to the Dr's.

I'd love to hear from you, but I know I'm certainly not on the top of your list, I myself along with my mom and (2) sisters lived at the hospital and was certainly deprived sleep, but yet had to attend to my infant at the same time. There were times (and still are) when I have no patients for my baby, all I cared about was getting my dad better, that was my life for 6 long weeks. I know my dad would so NOT want me to do that to the baby.

Have you been in touch with the "Coalition for the pulmonary foundation"?
Theresa Gieger was a big help for me.

Again, I'd love to hear from you if you can squeeze in a few minutes.
feel free to contact me or call me 516-330-8924,
My prayers are certainly with you and your family.

Sincerely,

Gina Arcese-Giuliano

Robert and Vera,

My prayers are with you for a speedy and successful recovery.

Many thanks and appreciation for many years of a wonderful voice.

May God bless both of you.

Sincerely,

Dearest Vera,

After reading about your history as a child, I'm sure you have a strong faith and are strong enough for this trial...All my love to you at this time and heart felt prayers...I've enjoyed Robert Goulet all my life...What a sweet person...both of you !!...I think he's very happy with you !! He has good taste in a partner for his life's journeys...I'm hoping for that transplant...but whatever happens,,,I wish you God's love...Lord be with you .

A big fan of you both.....Gerry Ammons, in New Castle, Pa

Dear Mr. Goulet,

I just heard the very sad news of your illness.
Last year I underwent lung surgery for nodules that the doctors thought might be lung cancer from 40 years of smoking..I was very fortunate with the outcome.

The experience has left me with a great understanding of what people in worse situations than me are going through. I will pray every day that you will be able to get the transplant that you need very soon and that you will be on the road to recovery.

You have much more life to live and happiness to give to your family and your fans.
also to Mrs Goulet....I pray for your strength and faith.
God Bless you and your family

Louise Briglia

Mr. and Mrs. Goulet,

We would like to extend our best wishes as you await lung transplantation.

We represent more than 128,000 patients who suffer from IPF and we are working hard to raise awareness for this devastating disease that claims as many lives each year as breast cancer (40,000) yet most people have never heard of it.

I lost my father to IPF in 1996 and helped found the Coalition for Pulmonary Fibrosis a few years later. Now, I have lost four more members of my family to it; it is my life’s work and the work of the CPF to find desperately needed treatments and ultimately a cure.

We wish you all the best. Please let us know how we may be helpful to you and your family.

Dear Robert and Vera:

I have been a fan of Mr.Goulet’s since I was very young, and have seen him in concert several times.

However, my favorite was a chance encounter when I was 9 years old. Robert was appearing at the O’Keefe Centre in Toronto in the summer of 1966. My parents, grandmother and I had driven to the O’Keefe to purchase tickets for the Supremes for my sister’s wedding anniversary. When we drove behind the O’Keefe—my mother spotted Robert outside the theatre, all dressed in his tux.

She yelled at him that her little girl was a big fan, and was in the car with a broken leg. He ran over to the car and climbed into the back seat with my grandmother and I, placing my cast on his leg. He chatted with us for a while, and tickled my toes as he signed my cast and a piece of paper. He then got into a big discussion with my father about his car—the two of them proceeded to climb under the hood of the car to check out the engine--- and were interrupted by the staff from the O’Keefe who told him he was due on stage—covered in grease, and the white dust from my cast!

I treasure that memory always. It was always a favorite story of my parents’. Unfortunately, the cast shattered when it was removed, (I warned the Dr to watch that autograph) but I still have the paper autograph.

I continue to enjoy Robert’s music, and play it by the hour in my car as I am driving.

I will pray for your speedy recovery from this illness, and look forward to seeing you in concert again soon.

Thanks for all the memories, and the music!

Love,

Vera,

I'm an actor and singer up here in the Boston area. My wife and I had the privilege of seeing Robert in "LA CAGE" on Broadway. What a wonderful performance. We pray for both of you that he will get a successful lung transplant very soon.

Love from another "theatre family member", Don Mallett and wife Jo-Ann

Hello,
My husband and I have been fans of yours for over 40 years. We have been privileged to see you in person 6 times, including Camelot in Sacramento and LA. We are praying that a lung (or lungs) will become available for transplant to you very soon. We have all of your albums/CDs. You have been our very favorite singer for our entire married life. We will celebrate our 40th anniversary on 11/11/07. We live in Fresno, CA.

Praying and hoping for the best for you!

Verna & Al Ward

I was so sorry to hear about Mr. Goulet's hospitalization.

Mr. Goulet has always been a favorite singer of mine. When I was younger and still in school, my mother would play the radio as she fixed breakfast and when I listened to some of the songs on his website it sure brought back memories. I will tell you a little secret...when my mother would hear him sing...she would say "hubba-hubba"!!!

My thoughts and prayers are with the family during this time and hope a compatible donor is found soon.

Adrienne

I just heard the devastating news of your hospitalization today and pray
for a donor and for some good news abut your successful surgery.

Once you are better, I am hoping someone can your retrieve messages for
you and relay our best wishes to you. We love you & want you around for
a long long time in the best of health possible. You have brought so
much joy into our lives, I hope we can return some of that joy or give
emotional support when you, Vera and your family may need it. For many
of us, you are family.

Hang in there & do what you need to do to get back to all our us.

Love,

Carol Wirth

Dear Vera,

My name is Greg Barton and I had A double lung Transplant last July of 2006. I am doing great my self. I had to go through the same thing as Robert is going through as well. I was on a respirator for about 3 months and could not speak . I was lucky enough to receive the new lungs just in the nick of time. If you would like to talk to me about this I would be happy to tell you whatever I can. Don't give up hope he will be fine.

Greg...

Mr Goulet and family,

I heard about your health crisis through Howard Stern's morning show and I am so sorry to hear about your condition. Please know I am a life long fan and you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers.

Regards,
Cindy Jepsen

P.S. I love your version of Restless, Restless :)

My husband rec'd a double lung transplant in Feb 06 for IPF at Loyola in Chicago. Talented doctors, breath-taking medical technology, and a patient in love with living are all it takes... plus the donor and his family. I hope there will be a donor and your opportunity for living life as you will soon know it is today, tomorrow.. NOW! Please spread the message of IPF and organ donation!!!

My prayers are with you.
